Inverse number is a system in some languages where every noun has an expected number (usually singular or plural), and you add an affix when you want to show that the noun isn’t the amount that is expected.
Imagine if you said “houses” for more than one house, but “egg” for many eggs and “eggs” for one egg, because eggs usually come in groups, and the “-s” showed that it isn’t the amount you would expect.
